Falcons Soar to 6-0 Shutout at Suffolk

Senior Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshman Kelly Kennedy (North Branford, Conn.) scored two goals each as the Albertus Magnus women's soccer downed Suffolk University 6-0 in GNAC play on Monday afternoon.

Today's win marked the third-straight shutout for the Falcons en route to their 10th victory of the season.  The 10 wins for the Falcons mark the fourth-straight season with 10 or more victories.  Albertus is now 10-3-2 on the year and an impressive 7-1 in the GNAC standings.

For Roke, the two goals improve her tally on the year to a team-high eight, while she now has 19 points this season and 67 points in her career, third-best on the Falcons' all-time program list.  Kennedy registered her first career points as she tallied her two goals.

Senior Shelley Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) finished the game with three assists as she now has 13 in her career and nine this season.

Sophomore Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) registered the victory for the Falcons as she tallied nine saves in her third-straight shutout.  She now has seven on the year which marks an Albertus Magnus single-season record.

The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the opening half thanks to goals from Meaghan Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) and Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.).  For Skidmore, today's goal marked her second-straight game tallying the Falcons' game winner.  Skidmore worked through Suffolk defenders to score her fourth goal of the season in the 11th minute of play.  Ten minutes later, Polvan finished on a ball from Mirmina to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.

Mirmina dished out the assists on the next two goals for the Falcons as she found Roke just 24-seconds into the second half.  Roke would score again on a corner set as Mirmina sent the ball into the box where Roke finished .

Kennedy added her two goals in the 86th and 90th minutes of play.  On her second goal, Acacia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.) earned the assist as the Falcons recorded 16 points in the contest.

Sophomore Melissa Brouillette made eight saves in goal for the Rams as they fall to a 5-8 overall and 5-3 in GNAC play.

Albertus held a 21-14 edge on shots in the contest, including a 12-5 clip in the first half.

Albertus will host Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon in a 1:00 p.m. contest in New Haven.  The AMCats are 4-9-1 on the year and are winless in GNAC play at 0-8.
