Omar Ramirez was named head coach of the men's and women's volleyball programs on May 1, 2010. Previously, he served as an assistant coach with the men's volleyball team since it's inception in three years ago and was an assistant since 2007 for the women's program.
Entering his fifth year in 2014-15 as head coach of both programs, Ramirez has a 29-64 overall record at the helm of the women's volleyball team, while he has posted a record of 41-57 with the men's program.
In the spring of 2014, Ramirez led the men's volleyball team to a 11-12 overall record starting strong on a five-game win streak. Additionally, Ramirez was able to build a seven-game win streak for women’s volleyball mid-season. In the fall of 2013, the women's team finished the the year 9-14.
In the spring of 2013, Ramirez led the Falcons' men's volleyball team to a 10-16 overall record as the Falcons opened the season with four-straight wins.
In 2012, Ramirez led the Albertus women's volleyball program to one of its best seasons in program history, finishing 2012 with a 12-13 overall record, the most wins for the program since joining the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in 1996. The Falcons finished the season 5-3 in their final eight matches to earn the right to play in the postseason for the first time since 2002.
The Falcons earned the right to play in their first-ever ECAC Tournament, where they faced top-seeded Brandeis. Under his tenure, senior captain Krista LaBissoniere (Meriden, Conn.) earned a coveted spot in the 2012 New England Women's Volleyball Association's (NEWVA) DIII Senior Classic as she was chosen as one of New England's top-35 DIII senior volleyball players.
Ramirez led the Albertus men's volleyball program to its best season in program history as the Falcons finished 2012 with a 19-10 overall record. The Falcons' 19 victories marked the program record for wins in a single season.
En route to the best season in program history, the Falcons made their first postseason appearance in the GNAC Tournament before defeating Wentworth in a 3-1, come-from-behind, victory. That win marked the program's first-ever postseason victory as well.
For his efforts, Ramirez was named the 2012 GNAC Men's Volleyball Coach of the Year, while sophomores Brendan Charamut (Southington, Conn.) and Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) were named to the GNAC All-Conference Second and Third Teams, respectively.
Prior to joining the Albertus staff, Ramirez served as an assistant coach for the University of New Haven men's volleyball team in 2008. He was a four-year player for the Chargers as a 5'8" libero and defensive specialist. As a team captain in 2007, he led New Haven with 129 digs, an average of 1.84 digs per game, while playing in 70 of the team's 75 sets.
During his playing career, Ramirez played in 232 games and recorded 403 digs, an average of 1.74 per game. A native of Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, he has enjoyed watching and learning from the Puerto Rican Professional Volleyball League since he was five years old. He started playing volleyball at the age of 15 after playing baseball.
In his first year as a volleyball player, he played in LIVA, a local league in his native Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, and made the All-Star team, while earning All-Star Tournament MVP and LIVA MVP honors. He also traveled to the Dominican Republic with his Adjuntas Team to play against the Dominican Republic Youth National Team.
In 2013, Ramirez earned his USA Volleyball CAP Level II Coaching certification as well as his FIVB Level I Coaching certification in Spain.
