O'Hara Hits Grand Slam, But Baseball Swept By Colby-Sawyer In Doubleheader

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Albertus Magnus College baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to Colby-Sawyer College, 9-6 and 18-3 (7 inn.) on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Joey O'Hara (Bethel, Conn.) hit a grand slam and drove in five runs. Eric Galarza (Bridgeport, Conn.) was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. He drove in a run and scored a run in game two. Adriel Espada (Bridgeport, Conn.) had two hits and a run in each game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After two scoreless innings, which included the Chargers leaving the bases loaded in the second inning, the two teams exchanged a run in the third inning. In the top of the inning, O'Hara had an RBI single that scored Galarza, who doubled. Jesse Chaves drove in a run in the bottom of the inning for CSC.
  • CSC scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth, including another RBI single by Chaves and a two-run singble by Devin Montalvo.
  • The Falcons answered in the top of the fifth with four runs of their own. Espada and Mark Whittington (Meriden, Conn.) each singled to open the inning. After Galarza was hit by a pitch to load the bases, O'Hara launched a grand to tie the game at 5-5. 
  • The Chargers scored five runs in the bottom of the inning as Chaves hit another two-run single while Montalvo added an RBI single giving them a 9-5 lead.
  • Galarza added an RBI single in the top of the sixth to make it a 9-6 game. The Falcons left two runners on base in each of the last two innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Galarza hit an RBI single followed by an RBI double by Noah Grosso (Farmington, Conn.) two batters later.
  • The Chargers scored seven runs in the bottom of the first, including a two-run double by Chaves, and RBI singles by Noah Staffier and Dylan Watson.
  • CSC added a run in the bottom of the second and three more in the toom of the third as Chaves added another run-scoring double to put the Chargers up, 11-2.
  • Albertus answered with a run in the top of the fourth as an error off the bat by Whittington scored Nick Ramos (Mineola, N.Y.).
  • The Chargers put the game away, scoring two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and three more in the bottom of the sixth.
