HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After Thomas threw a scorless first inning where he struck out a batter, the Falcons scored a run in the bottom of the inning on a miscue in the infield by Elms off the bat of O'Hara that scored Espada. Espada singled to lead off the inning.
  • Thomas and counterpart Sal Ortiz of Elms kept the offense off the board over the next three full innings.
  • Albertus put up four runs in the bottom of the fifth, all of which came with two outs. With a runner on second, Galarza laced an RBI single to right field to score Abate. O'Hara followed with a single to put two runners on and another error from Elms off the bat of Noah Grosso (Farmington, Conn.) put the Falcons up, 3-0. After a walk to Alex Perez (Meriden, Conn.) loaded the bases, Brayden Hastings (Wallingford, Conn.) had an infield single before Mesa drew a bases loaded walk to make it a 5-0 game.
  • Thomas struck out at least one batter in every inning, and retired the last seven batters he faced to earn his second complete game shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Starter Justin Feinstein (Monroe, Conn.) struck out two batters in the top of the first inning. The Falcons then got the scoring going in the bottom of the first inning as two errors from the Blazers scored Mark Whittington (Meriden, Conn.) and Galarza, who walked and singled, respectively.
  • Elms then scored three runs on an Albertus error in the outfield which cleared the bases and gave the Blazers a 3-2 lead.
  • The Falcons took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth. After a double from O'Hara to lead off the inning, three batters later, Hastings singled to drive in O'Hara. Grosso, who reached on an error, also scored on the play as the ball was misplayed in the outfield.
  • An RBI double by Manny Essley and an RBI single by Liam Pond put the Blazers up 5-4 in the fifth and a two-run homer by Nason Busca in the top of the sixth made it a 7-4 game.
  • The Falcons got two runs back in the bottom sixth on a two-out, two-run no doubt home run over the left field fence to make it a 7-6 game.
  • However, the Blazers scored four runs in the top of the seventh, including a two-run single by Eliam Martinez. They'd add two more runs each in the final two innings, including RBI singles by Pond and Andrew Ciaglo in the top of the eighth.
  • O'Hara added his eighth home run of the season in the bottom of the ninth.
