Two Falcons Named to NABC Honors Court

Albertus Magnus College men's basketball players James Economopoulos (Wallingford, Conn.) and Julian Sanders (Trumbull, Conn.) have been named to the 2012-13 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court, as announced by the association on Wednesday afternoon.  The NABC Honors Court recognizes those collegiate men's basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics throughout the school year.

In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high-standard of academic criteria.  The student must be academically a junior or senior and a varsity player; they must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2012-13 academic year; they must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution; and their team must be a member of the NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II.

Economopoulos, who completed his eligibility this past winter, earned the Albertus Magnus Athletic Department's Betsy Fahy Award.  The award was given to the Wallingford native as he represents everything from athletic ability to attitude, spirit, integrity, sportsmanship and commitment to academics.

The senior finished his career with 417 points, 103 rebounds, a 37.2 three-point shooting percentage, and 111 assists.

Sanders, who finished his junior season in 2012-13, has scored 327 points for the Falcons in three seasons.  He has registered 94 rebounds, 41 assists, 26 steals and a 41.7 three-point shooting percentage.

Sanders' 48.1 three-point shooting percentage during the 2012-13 season led the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).  Sanders will help lead the Falcons in 2013-14 as a senior.

Saint Joseph's College of Maine was the only other GNAC team to have members on the Honors Court list.
