Men's Basketball Forward Shontaey Lovell Named GNAC Rookie of the Week

Winthrop, Mass. – For the third time this season, Albertus Magnus College freshman men's basketball player Shontaey Lovell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was honored as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Corvias Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Lovell continued his hot start to the 2015-16 season last week, recording his third straight double-double in a conference win against Norwich. In the GNAC opener for both teams, Lovell battled all evening in the post, scoring a team-high 14 points and pulling down a game-best 17 rebounds. He grabbed an impressive nine offensive rebounds and shot 6-of-14 from the floor in his first collegiate start. On the defensive end, he recorded two steals and blocked one shot.

Lovell earns the accolade for the third week in a row thanks to registering double-doubles in all three of his appearances this winter.

Through the first three games of his collegiate career, he is averaging 20 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks per game. The 6-6 post player is also shooting a team-best 57.5 percent from the floor and averaging seven made field goals a tilt. He currently leads the country in rebounds per game.

The Falcons return to action on Tuesday, December 1, with a conference road clash with Suffolk at 7:00 pm.
