Men's Basketball Pulls Away In Second Half To Defeat Lehman

BRONX, N.Y. - Three players scored in double figures as the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team defeated Lehman College, 65-57 in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon.

Ray Ford, Jr. (Jersey City, N.J.) led the Falcons with 16 points to go with four five steals, four rebounds and five assists.

Ta'zhon Daniels (New Haven, Conn.) scored 13 points with three steals and two assists and Nate Charlot (Monroe, Conn.) scored a career-high 12 points with six rebounds off the bench. Tahijj Hunter (Mount Laurel, N.J.) grabbed  13 rebounds off the bench to go with six points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The two teams were tied 6-6 after a basket by Rodrick Pearson (Hartford, Conn.) with 14:02 on the clock. However, Lehman scored the next seven points, capped by a three from Manny Barkor to take a 13-6 lead.
  • Albertus battled back to within one at, starting with a layup in traffic by Ford, Jr. Hunter then scored the next six points of the run as the Falcons trailed 15-14 with 9:37 left in the half.
  • The Falcons kept the game close, staying within one possession for the next eight minutes. They'd finally take their first lead of the game with 1:02 left as Daniels was able to separate from his defender with a dribble between the legs and bury a three-pointer to put the Falcons ahead, 28-26. The Falcons took a slim 28-27 lead into halftime. Daniels and Hunter each had six points for the Falcons in the first half while Charlot scored five.
  • Daniels opened the second half with a three from the corner and Avery Hinnant (Naugatuck, Conn.) had a dunk after a feed from Ford, Jr. in the lane to give Albertus a 33-28 lead. 
  • Albertus would then go on to take over the game, as the Falcons led 47-29 after seven more points from Ford, Jr., four from Daniels and a three from Jayquan Kirkland (Stratford, Conn.). Albertus had three steals during the run, all of which led to points on the offensive end.
  • Lehman responded on a 12-0 run, including eight points from Amar Ndiaye to close the Albertus lead to 47-41. Charlot ended the run after grabbing an offensive rebound and buring a jumper to put Albertus back up eight points with 8:08 left.
  • With the Falcons leading 53-46 with just under five minutes left, Charlot scored the next five points starting with a baseline floater and then a transition three-pointer to put the Falcons back up 58-46 with 4:28 left.
  • Albertus was able to hold off Lehman the rest of the way and earn the win.
