Men's Basketball Wins Third Straight Game In Dominating Win Over Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Four players scored in doubles figures as the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team put together a dominating performance in an 88-54 win over Brooklyn College on Wednesday evening for its third straight win.

Ray Ford, Jr. (Jersey City, N.J.) led all scorers with 22 points in addition to seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Jayquan Kirkland (Stratford, Conn.) scored 13 points, including 3-for-6 from three to fo with four rebounds and two steals. 

Ta'zhon Daniels (New Haven, Conn.) scored 12 points with six assists and Isaiah Earl (Hamden, Conn.) scored 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting to go with six rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albertus jumped out to a 10-6 lead just over four minutes into the game behind threes from Kirkland and Ford, Jr.
  • Brooklyn rallied to take its first lead at 11-10 at the 15:05 mark as the and the two teams would start a stretch of five lead changes over five possessions. During the stretch, Earl, Ford, Jr. and Kirkland all hit three pointers as the Falcons took a 21-18 lead before Brooklyn answered with a three from Muneer Ibrahem with 11:44 left in the first half.
  • Back-to-back baskets from Lennox Serrano (Waterbury, Conn.) and Avery Hinnant (Naugatuck, Conn.) gave the Falcons a 25-21 lead, one which they would not relinquish.
  • After a basket by Brooklyn's Thomas Hall cut the Albertus lead to 34-28 with 6:56 remaining, the Falcons scored the final 17 points in the first half, which included five points apiece from Earl, Kirkland and Daniels. Albertus shot 6-for-11 from the field over the run while holding Brooklyn 0-for-9 from the field over the final 6:44. Albertus hit nine threes in the first half, and held Brooklyn to 37.5 percent from the field.
  • The Falcons were never threatened in the second half as they shot 14-for-31 from the field during that time and never led by less than 20 points the rest of the way.
  • Ford, Jr. scored 13 points in the second half to pace the Falcons, while Taufick Aziz (Ghana/Bronx, N.Y.) scored five points. Albertus caused 13 turnovers in the second half, including eight steals.
