Four Score In Double Figures As Men's Basketball Rolls Past NEC In GNAC Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Isaiah Earl (Hamden, Conn.) scored a career-high 29 points and Ray Ford, Jr. (Jersey City, N.J.) added 25 points as the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team won its third straight game in a 105-65 drubbing of New England College on Saturday afternoon in The Nest.

Earl shot 11-for-15 from the field and added nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Ford, Jr. shot 9-for-13 from the field, with seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Jayquan Kirkland (Stratford, Conn.) scored 19 points to go with five rebounds. Avery Hinnant (Naugatuck, Conn.) was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, scoring 10 points, with eight rebounds and three blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albertus took an 11-10 early on in the game as Earl opened the scoring with a dunk. Ford, Jr. added a three and Hinnant added four points in the opening four minutes, including a dunk of his own.
  • Later in the half, Ford, Jr. scored five straight, including a three to take an 18-15 lead. After the Pilgrims answered with a three from Michael Hills to tie the game, Albertus took the lead for good, going on an 8-2 run that included a basket from Nate Charlot and ended on another dunk from Earl at the 6:45 mark that made it a 26-20 game.
  • Albertus hit eight of ten free throws down the stretch of the first half and a steal from Ford, Jr. that led to a dunk from Charlot and helped the Falcons take a 42-32 lead into halftime.
  • The Pilgrims trimmed the Falcons lead to four points after a layup from Jasen Stovall made it a 46-42 game just over three minutes in.
  • A 22-2 run followed by Albertus as the Falcons took a 68-44 lead. Earl scored eight points in the run, including a steal and windmill slam while Kirkland scored seven straight points to end the run as the Falcons took complete control of the game.
  • The Falcons had eight dunks in the second half of the game and never let NEC get closer than 17 points the rest of the way. The Falcons shot a staggering 66.7 percent from the field in the second half.
  • Kirkland scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half, while Earl and Ford, Jr. each had 15. The Falcons also forced 13 turnovers in the half.
