Burrows Scores Seven Goals As Men's Lacrosse Rallies In Fourth Quarter To Beat Saint Joseph's (LI)

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -  Marcus Burrows (West Haven Conn.) scored seven goals, including the final three for the Albertus Magnus College men's lacrosse team in the fourth quarter as the Falcons rallied for a 13-12 win against the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's University of Long Island, Tuesday night at Celentano Field. 

DaKari Coleman (Norwalk, Conn.) picked up four points on two goals and two assists, and Cooper Strecker (Chester, Conn.) had two goals. 

Alexis Gonzalez (Edison, N.J.) got the start in goal for the Falcons, making 11 saves to pick up the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Coleman got the scoring started as he netted his first goal of the season less than three minutes into the game.
  • The Golden Eagles tied the game as Caden Stubba notched his first goal of the game.
  • Coleman answered back less than a minute later, scoring his second of the game and 20th of his career.
  • With 3:37 left in the quarter, Alex Morales (Wallingford, Conn.) scored his first career goal as the Falcons took a 3-1 lead.
  • The Falcons opened the scoring in the second quarter as Burrows sent one to the back of the net for his first of many on the night, to increase the Albertus lead. Then with a man-up advantage, Cooper Strecker (Chester, Conn.) ripped one behind his head and past Julian Gonzalez to put the Falcons ahead, 5-1 at the 12:42 mark. Burrows, Strecker and Nicholas Longo (Ridge, N.Y.) later scored three straight goals for the Falcons as they took an 8-3 lead with 6:28 remaining in the first half.
  • The Golden Eagles were able to make up some ground as they scored the final three goals of the first half, including goals from Anthony Herrera and Najee Henderson in the final 30 seconds as Albertus still held an 8-6 lead heading into halftime.
  • SJLI opened the second half with a goal from Matt Cioffi after taking a pass from Patrick Haggerty. Just 13 seconds later, the Falcons bumped their lead back to two as Coleman sent the ball Burrows' way for the score. Burrows added another goal to make it a 10-7 game. SJLI got one more goal from Stubba with 22 seconds left to go in the third quarter with the Falcons leading 10-8.
  • The Golden Eagles took control in the fourth as they scored four straight goals to lead for the first time all game, including two from Herrera.
  • Burrows cut the deficit to one goal after a man-up goal with 4:46 after a pass from Longo. Just 90 seconds later, he'd tie the game at 12-12. He would add the game-winner just 25 seconds after he tied it, giving the Falcons the win.
