Men's Soccer Weekly Preview: Hunter & Lasell

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team went 1-1 last week in a pair of home games, topping Westfield State, 3-2, in non-conference action before falling to Suffolk, 1-0, in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener for both squads. In the victory against the Owls, freshman Brayan Lucero had a hand in all three Falcon tallies thanks to a two-goal, one-assist performance. Senior midfielder Matt Mueller potted the other Albertus Magnus marker on a header off a free kick delivered by Lucero. For the week, sophomore goalkeeper Joe Russo made eight saves, including a season-high seven against Suffolk on Saturday.

This Week: The Falcons end their four-game homestand on Monday with a non-conference clash against Hunter before traveling to take on Lasell in conference play over the weekend.

Last Year Versus the Lasers: With just over 90 seconds remaining in the second overtime period, junior midfielder Alex Zapata scored the game-winning goal to lead the Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team past Lasell last October. In net, Russo made five saves to earn the clean sheet.

NOTES:
- For the second straight week, Lucero was honored as the GNAC Rookie of the Week. He recorded five points and had a hand in all three of the team's goals, thanks to a two-goal, one-assist performance, in a 3-2 non-conference victory against Westfield State at home. He currently leads the GNAC in assists with three and is fifth in points with seven.
- Justyn Broderick and Ritchy Jean Pierre are tied for second on the team with six points through the first four games games with two goals and two assists apiece. In the season opener, Broderick scored a marker to go along with a helper for the Falcons. In his second start of the fall, he opened the scoring and potted the eventual game-winner in a 3-0 shutout versus Brooklyn College at home.
- Senior midfielder Matt Mueller has scored twice this season and classmate Alexis Garcia-Romero has picked up two helpers this fall.
- In net, Joe Russo is 2-2 with a .708 save percentage, 17 saves and a 1.75 goals-against average in 360 minutes of action. Last time out, Russo made a season-high seven saves against Suffolk.
