Men's Tennis Clinches Spot In CUNYAC Tournament After Shutout Win Over York

JAMAICA, N.Y. - The Albertus Magnus College men's tennis team clinched a spot in the City University of New York Athletic Conference  tournament after a 7-0 win over York College (N.Y.) on Thursday afternoon.

The Falcons won all three doubles matches to earn a point. Eric Chamandy (Montreal, Quebec) and Josh Piro (Columbia, Conn.) defeated Altenor Molien and Gabriela Pirondi, 6-1 in doubles no. 1. Peter Keese (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Zane Kindrachuk (Calgary, Alberta) won 6-0 against Shady Kalil and Munab Hasnain and Gustavo Flores-Soto (East Haven, Conn.) and Ervie Terwilliger (Glenwood, MD) shut out Franeidy Mauricio and Oscar Leyva, 6-0 in doubles no. 3.

Albertus won all six of the singles matches in straight sets. Chamandy defeated Altenor Molien, 6-2, 6-0 in no. 1. Piro did not give up a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kalil in no. 2. Chamandy has now won three of his last four singles matches and three of his last four doubles matches.

In no. 3, Keese topped Hasnain, 6-1, 6-0. Kindrachuk topped Pirondi, 6-4, 6-1 in no. 4.

Soto defeated Firdaus Abdulai, 6-2, 6-2 in no. 5 singles and Terwilliger defeated Leyva, 6-1, 6-0.

The Falcons are now 3-5 overall and 3-2 in CUNYAC play. York moved to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in conference.

The Falcons will host Lehman on Saturday at noon in a CUNYAC match.
