Freshman newcomer Raymond Torres (Catano, Puerto Rico) of the Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Raul Rivera Rojas (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll for his play throughout the week.
Torres helped the Falcons to a 3-0 start to begin 2014 with back-to-back victories on the week. Torres dished out a season-high 47 assists in the Falcons' 3-1 win over Newbury on Sunday but also led the Falcons with 12 digs in the contest.
He totaled 20 digs on the week to go along with three blocks, eight kills, and four service aces.
Rivera Rojas led the Falcons with 18 kills in their win over Newbury and had 11 kills in a 3-1 win at CCNY. He hit .324 on Sunday in the victory, while adding three blocks and three digs. He also tallied 10 digs on the week for the Falcons.
