WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team swept their doubleheader on Wednesday, defeating Penn State-Brandywine, 3-0 followed by a win over SUNY Polytechnic, 6-5 in eight innings.

Skylar Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) pitched a complete game shutout and added two hits and an RBI in the win over Penn State Brandywine. 

Arent struck out four over seven scoreless innings, earning her second win of the season.

Gianna Carrano (West Haven, Conn.) also drove in a run, had two walks, and a run scored.

In the second game of the day, the Falcons rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to win in the eighth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Arent started her outing on the mound by getting out of a first-inning jam with a strikeout. Then in the bottom of the 1st, she doubled home Carrano to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

• The next five Nittany Lion batters were retired in order. They then threatened however, with a single followed by a walk. Arent was able to escape unscathed, by getting the cleanup hitter, Shelby Decillis, to foul out to first.

• Penn State Brandywine's starter, April Lewandowski, was able to keep the Falcons off the board for three straight innings.

• The bottom of the 5th started with a single to center field by sophomore Amelia Boulli (Torrington, Conn.). Jorja Trocchio (Wallingford, Conn.) followed that up with a walk. Isabelle Smith (Meriden, Conn.) then laid down a nice bunt to move both runners in scoring position. Carrano got the job done with an RBI groundout, scoring Jazmyn Browne (Bristol, Conn.), who pinch ran for Boulli.

• In the bottom of the sixth, Colleen Edwards (Clinton, Conn.) scored another insurance run for the Falcons on a single by Izzy Barreiro (Brookfield, Conn.).

• In the top of the 7th, Arent finished her day by retiring the side in order, earning her first shutout of the season.

Arent's complete game shutout was the fifth of her career, and she has recorded a hit in four straight games.
