Boulli’s Walk-Off Hit  Highlights Softball's Sweep Of Simmons

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team opened up Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a walk-off win in the 10th inning in the team's home opener against the Sharks of Simmons University in a 3-2 game one win and followed it up with an 8-2 victory in game two

Amelia Boulli (Torrington, Conn.) was the hero for the Falcons in game one as her single in the bottom of the 10th, lifted the Falcons to the win in game one.

Annabelle Jabs (East Hartland, Conn.) got the start for the Falcons in the circle, pitching eight innings and striking out six in the first game. 

In game two, Mikaela Schwippert (Whippany, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Reilly Austin (Cumberland, R.I.) drove in three runs.

Karla Carangelo (Cheshire, Conn.) got the start in the circle for the Falcons in the second game, pitching four innings and striking out two to secure the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • After three and a third scoreless innings, the Falcons jumped in front on an RBI double by  Austin to bring home Kaitlyn Scribner (Quaker Hill, Conn.).
  • Simmons tied it after a wild pitch by Jabs in the sixth, scoring Zoe Soule.
  • With the game tied going to extras, the Sharks took the lead in the ninth after a single by Emma Soule, scoring Teagan Buckley.
  • In the bottom of the ninth Schwippert singled up the middle to bring home Gianna Carrano (West Haven, Conn.) to tie the game.
  • With runners on second and third in the bottom of the 10th, Boulli singled to center field to bring home Tessa D'Aquila (Old Saybrook, Conn.) to win it for Albertus.

NOTEWORTHY 

  • Jabs started the 63rd game of her career in the circle, a new program record. She also moved into fourth all-time in innings pitched with 330.1. She is 34 strikeouts away from 300.
  • Austin hit the first double of her career and has hit safely in five straight games.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons jumped to a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Schwippert singled home Izzy Barreiro (Brookfield, Conn.).
  • The Falcons added three more runs in the innings courtesy of three bases loaded walks to Austin, Carangelo, and Boulli.
  • Albertus extended its lead as it added three runs in the next inning as Austin singled home Isabelle Smith (Meriden, Conn.) and Carrano. Carangelo then brought home Gina Solow (Fairfield, Conn.) on a single to right field.
  • Simmons got on the board as Zoe Soule grounded out to second, bringing in Piper Kinney.
  • A wild pitch brought home another Albertus run in the fifth inning.
  • The Sharks added a run on a wild pitch in the seventh.
