Jabs Throws No-Hitter In Game One, Carangelo Hits Two Homers And Two Triples In Sweep Of Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. - Annabelle Jabs (East Hartland, Conn.) threw a no-hitter and Karla Carangelo (Cheshire, Conn.) hit two homers in game one, and Mikaela Schwippert (Whippany, N.J.) and Reilly Austin (Cumberland, R.I.) hit homers in game two as the Albertus Magnus College softball team remained undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a sweep of Lasell, 8-0 and 9-7 on Sunday afternoon.

After the first batter reached on an error, Jabs retired the next 18 batters to secure her second win in as many days. She struck out four in six innings.

For Carangelo, it was her second two-home run game this season, as she drove in four runs in game one.

In game two, Austin hit her first career home run while driving in two runs and scoring two while Schwipppert drove in two runs on two hits in the game. Carangelo went 3-for-4 in game two with two triples, two runs and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jabs struck out one batter in the first inning, and the Falcons got on the board with two runs in the top of the second as Barreiro hot a two-run double to score Carangelo and Amelia Ovalles (Lawrence Mass.) to put the Falcons up, 2-0. 
  • Jabs continued to keep the Lasers off the base paths, and the offense respoded with four runs in the top of the fifth as Schwippert had an RBI single to get the scoring going. After an RBI groundout by Austin, Carangelo hit her fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot to make it a 6-0 game.
  • Carangelo added her second homer of the game in the following inning as she hit another two-run shot to put the Falcons ahead, 8-0. Jabs retired the side in order once again to secure the no-hitter and second win in as many days.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons gave up two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run single by Shyanne Raccio.
  • Albertus respoded in the top of the third with four runs of their own. With two outs and a runner on first, Austin launched her first career home run to tie the game at 2-2. After a triple by Carangelo, Ovalles drove her in on a single to give Albertus the 3-2 lead. Ovalles later would score on a wild pitch.
  • Albertus added a run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Carangelo, but the Lasers answered with a two-run double to cut the Albertus lead to 5-4.
  • The Falcons jumped ahead 8-4 in the top of the sixth after an RBI double by Gina Solow (Fairfield, Conn.), followed by a two-run homer by Schwippert. The Lasers scored two in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Emma Tarleton and an RBi single by Alyssa Bland.
  • Amelia Boulli (Torrington, Conn.) added an insurance run for the Falcons on a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh.
