WORCESTER, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team lost its first game in the NCAA Division III Regional, 9-0 in five innings to the top seed and the host in the region, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) on Friday afternoon.

Annabelle Jabs (East Hartland, Conn.) and Karla Carangelo (Cheshire, Conn.) each had three strikeouts in two innings of work apiece.

Reilly Austin (Cumberland, R.I.) had the lone hit for the Falcons.

The Falcons - seeded fourth in the region - will take on the second seed in the region, Stockton University (N.J.) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in an elimination game (Live Video). The winner of the game will move on to play the loser of WPI and the no. 3 seed in the region, UMass-Dartmouth at 4 p.m. in another elimination game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jabs got out of a jam in the bottom of the first inning, retiring the final two batters and leaving runners on second and third.
• Austin singled to lead off the top of the second, but was left on second base.
• Virginia McKinney led off the bottom of the third for WPI with a triple. After two walks, Riley O'Brien singled to score two runs. Ali Chalovich added an RBI single and a wild pitch scored two runs as the Engineers took a 6-0 lead.
• WPI added three more unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth, including an RBI single by Stella Kozak.
