NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Ariellys Velez (Watertown, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week while teammate Isabella Fiorillo (West Haven, Conn.) was named to the conference's weekly honor roll.

The Falcons went 2-0 on the week with conference wins over Elms and Norwich.

In the team's 65-52 win over Elms on January 20th, Velez scored 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting with three rebounds as the Falcons picked up their first conference win of the season. Against Norwich on January 24th in a 69-65 win, Velez scored a game-high 23 points, including 3-for-6 from three to go with seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Fiorillo scored a career-high 27 points in the win over Elms, hitting four three-pointers with three rebounds and three steals as she played all 40 minutes. In the win over Norwich, she played all 40 minutes once again, scoring 12 points with six rebounds.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday as they go on the road to take on Saint Joseph's College of Maine for a 1 p.m. tip.
