NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team lost a 73-53 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game to Lasell University on Saturday afternoon.

Ariellys Velez (Watertown, Conn.) scored a team-high 15 points for the Falcons with four rebounds. 

Isabella Forillo (West Haven, Conn.) scored 12 points with three rebounds and four assists. Adriana DeBernardo (Stratford, Conn.) had 11 points with six rebounds. Ava Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) had eight points and eight rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Albertus trailed 9-2 early behind four points from Lasell's Laura Johnson. The Falcons responded with the next eight points as Velez and DeBernardo each scored four points to stake the Falcons to a 10-9 lead. However, Shirle Major hit two threes for Lasell as the Lasers finished the first quarter on an 11-1 run to take a 20-11 lead.
• Velez scored eight points for the Falcons in the second quarter on 4-for-7 shooting, but the Lasers were able to extend their lead to 46-30 at halftime as Major hit three more three-pointers and finished with 11 points in the quarter for Lasell.
• The Falcons trailed by as much as 22 points at 54-32 just over three minutes into the second half, but the Falcons went on an 8-1 run capped by a three from Fiorillo to cut their deficit to 55-40. Fiorillo hit one more three in the quarter, but Lasell took a 63-43 lead heading into the fourth.
• Albertus was unable to get any closer in the fourth as Lasell was able to hold on to the win.
