HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The two goalies were the story in the first period as Johnson stopped all 10 shots she faced in net and UMass-Boston goaltender, Veronika Hadamovsky stopped all nine she faced. Five of the nine shots from Albertus came within the first six minutes, two of which came from Martin.
  • UMass-Boston began to take control of the puck more in the second period, taking 18 shots on net, as Johnson stopped 17 of them. The Beacons finally broke through at the 13:19 mark of the period as Adriana Crepaldi tipped in a shot from Mia Boyd right after a faceoff win to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Johnson stopped all 21 shots she faced in the final period, preserving the one-goal game until Martin's goal. With Albertus on the power-play, Lofstock stole the puck in the neutral zone and tried to feed the puck into the slot, but the pass hit the skate of a Beacons player out to Martin in front of the blue line. Martin ripped a slapshot through the crowd of players in front of the net past Hadamovsky to tie the game, 1-1, eventually forcing overtime. It was Martin's team-leading seventh goal of the season.
  • Johnson made big saves with the game tied, including stopping a shot from Allie Reifler during a 3-on-1 break with 7:15 left in regulation. With 5:52 left she was able to stop a deflected shot in front of the net from Emerson Homa that popped up in the air. Johnson dove on the loose puck, leading to a faceoff.
  • Albertus had two great opportunities in the overtime session with under three minutes left. The first came on a shot from Tori Walsh (Marystown, Newfoundland) after Kendall Conley (Trumbull, Conn.) dropped a pass off to her in the slot, but Hadamovsky made the save. Moments later, Walsh had a clear shot at the net from the right faceoff circle, but Hadamovsky was able to get in front of it.
  • With 1:17 left, the Beacons won a faceoff in the neutral zone. Reifler raced down ahead of the defense and tried to backhand a shot and Johnson was able to make the stop to preserve the tie. Johnson stopped all nine shots in overtime.
