Women's Ice Hockey Suffers First Loss Of Season To Nichols

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's ice hockey team suffered its first loss of the season in a 2-1 defeat by the hands of Nichols College in a non-conference game at Ralph Walker Ice Rink on Saturday.

Molly Martin (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored the lone goal of the game for the Falcons.

Jess Trocchio (Holtsville, N.Y. stopped 17 shots on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In a scoreless first period the Falcons had power-play opportunities early with a 5-on-3 chance, but the Bison were able to kill the Albertus advantage. Trocchio stopped five shots in the period for Albertus while Ivy Grant of Nichols stopped all nine shots she faced.
  • The second period saw the Bison score twice to take a 2-0 lead. The first coming on a goal from Angalisa Caceda after she backhanded a shot in front of the net after a pass from Taylor Breen at the 3:22 mark. Just over five minutes  the Bison won a faceoff in their offensive zone and Breen took a point-blank shot in front of the net to make it a 2-0 game.
  • The Falcons finally got on the board at the 6:21 mark of the third period as Tori Walsh (Marystown, Newfoundland) made a pass from behind the net to the left faceoff circle and fired a shot past Grant for her 10th goal of the season.
