Women's Ice Hockey Loses UCHC Game To St. John Fisher

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's ice hockey team was narrowly defeated by the Cardinals of St. John Fisher University in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) matchup, 2-1 Friday afternoon. 

Molly Martin (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for the Falcons, her team-leading 15th of the season. Christmas Johnson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) made the start in goal, making 18 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Cardinals jumped to the early 1-0 lead, courtesy of a power-play goal by Keira Reckley at 3:37. Eibhleann Knox and Sophie Grant were credited with the assists.
  • After a scoreless second period, the Falcons got on the board to tie the game in the third when Martin skated the length of the ice, beating the Cardinals' defenders and netting an unassisted goal at 6:38.
  • It didn't take long for the Cardinals to regain the lead as at 7:49, Cordelia Wemyss sent the puck off the boards, ricocheting to Reckley and sneaking the puck past Johnson for her second goal of the game. Casey Turek also had an assist on the goal.

This was the first meeting between the Falcons and the Cardinals.

Johnson is now 11 saves away from 2,000 for her career.

The Falcons and Cardinals will close out their UCHC weekend series Saturday at the Ralph Walker Rink at 10:30 a.m. The game will be the Falcons' home finale for the regular season where the team will honor seniors Kayla Clark (Avon, Conn.) and Madeline Sheffield (Ballston, N.Y.).
