Schlechtweg’s Hat Trick Lifts Women's Lacrosse to First Win Of The Season, Defeating Anna Maria

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse earned its first win of the season, a 7-3 defeat of the AMCATS of Anna Maria College on Tuesday afternoon from Celentano Field. Delaney Schlechtweg (Goshen, N.Y.) scored a hat trick for the Falcons. The win also marked the first for head coach Jessica Harrison.

Briony Retasket (Beaverton, Ore.), Sage Sonsini (Milford, Conn.), Alexys Signor (North Haven, Conn.) and Jamily Carter (New Britain, Conn.) all scored their first goals of the season for the Falcons.

Victoria McDermott (Northford, Conn.) started in goal, making five saves on eight shots to earn the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • It only took 23 seconds into the game for the Falcons to jump to the 1-0 lead as Retasket shifted through the Anna Maria defense to put it away for the early score.
  • The Falcons took a 2-0 lead to close the first quarter as Schlechtweg found the net for her first of three goals.
  • The Falcons' lead increased to 3-0 after Sonsini scored a free position goal. The goal was the first of Sonsini's career.
  • Just under five minutes into the second half, the AMCATS got on the board with a goal from Kortney Clark.
  • The Falcons responded about a minute and a half later as Signor took a shot that was deflected off of goalie Grace Holden and put the second shot away for the score.
  • The Falcons ended the third quarter with a 5-1 lead as Schlechtweg took a pass from Moira O'Brien (Wilbraham, Mass.) to score the goal.
  • Schlechtweg opened up the fourth quarter with her third goal of the game, just 19 seconds in. The Falcons added one more goal as Carter ripped one past Holden.
  • Anna Maria added two more goals on two free-position shots, courtesy of Kelsey Wilson and Kortney Clark.
