NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Tiffanie Ly (Branford, Conn.) scored a career-high four goals and Alexys Signor (North Haven, Conn.)added a hat trick of her own as the Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team defeated Purchase College, 14-5 in a non-conference game on Friday afternoon at Celentano Field.
Sage Sonsini (Milford, Conn.) scored twice for Albertus. Briony Retasket (Beaverton, Ore.), Moira O'Brien (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Julianna Montano (Wallingford, Conn.) each added a goal and an assist for the Falcons.
Jamily Carter (New Britain, Conn.) had a goal and an assist and Amanda Borges (Fair Lawn, N.J.) scored her first career goal.
Victoria McDermott had three saves on the day in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Albertus scored just 17 seconds into the game as Ly took a pass from Retasket to put the Falcons up, 1-0. Just three minutes later, the Falcons scored two straight goals as Sonsini and Signor each scored 29 seconds apart on assists from Montano to put Albertus ahead, 3-0.
- Retasket added a free position goal with 8:54 left in the first quarter. After a goal from Julieth Velasquez put the Panthers on the board, Sonsini and Montano each added a goal as Albertus took a 6-1 lead into the second quarter.
- Ly Once again scored less than a minute into the second quarter and Signor added her second of the game to put Albertus up, 8-1 at 12:53. The Panthers added a goal less than a minute later, but Ly scored back-to-back goals on passes from O'Brien and Delaney Schlectweg (Goshen, Conn.) to give Albertus a 10-2 lead. O'Brien and Signor each added a goal in the final four minutes as the Falcons led 12-3 at halftime.
- Purchase scored the lone goal of the third quarter as Velasquez added her second of the game.
- Borges notched her first career goal after taking a pass from Carter at the 11:43 mark of the fourth. Carter added one final goal for the Falcons with 4:30 left.
