Women's Soccer Notches Third Straight Shutout In GNAC-Opening Win Over Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Conn. - For the third straight game, the Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team did not allow a goal in a 6-0 drubbing of Mitchell College in the team's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener on Wednesday afternoon.

Tyler Stocking (Middletown, Conn.) had two goals on the day, while Natalya Pennant (Windsor, Conn.), Stacey Casorla (Southington, Conn.), Taya Bagley (Foster, R.I.) and Ejalam Bravo (New Britain, Conn.) each had one.

Julia Tsakonas (West Haven, Conn.) notched two assists.

Amy Stevens (Lincoln, R.I.) and Liliana Novicki (Clinton, Conn.) combined for the shutout in goal.

The three straight shutouts are the most consecutive shutouts in a season since 2016 when the Falcons registered four clean sheets in a row.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Pennant wasted little time getting the Falcons on the board as Grace D'Amico (Southbury, Conn.) found her right in front of the net with Mitchell goalkeeper Ronnie Keays out of position to make it a 1-0 game just 35 seconds into the game. It was Pennant's second goal of the season as she has scored in two straight games.
  • In a 10 minute span, the Falcons racked up three more goals in the first half. The first from Bagley, who beat a defender as she took the ball into the 18-yard box and fired a low shot past Keays in the 21st minute, making it a 2-0 game. The goal was Bagley's first of her career.
  • Stocking scored just four minutes later as Tsakonas split two defenders with a pass into the box. Stocking then kicked it into the far side of the goal as Keays came out the net in an attempt to stop the shot.
  • In the 31st minute, Casorla scored her second goal of the season as she dribbled the ball the final third of the way down the field and took a shot from the endline at a tough angle and into the back of the net giving Albertus the 4-0 lead going into halftime.
  • Albertus continued to put pressure on Mitchell in the second half, eventually scoring in the 51st minute off the foot of Bravo for her third goal of the season. Bravo fired a shot from the top of the box into the left corner of the net to make it a 5-0 game.
  • Stocking bookended the scoring with her second goal of the game and fourth of the season as it was Tsakonas once again finding Stocking the same way she did on her first goal of the game by splitting the defenders with a pass into the box allowing Stocking to put the ball in the back of the net.
