NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Albertus Magnus College women's swimming & diving head coach Lauren Pallone is pleased to announce the program's plan for competition during the 2021 season.
Pallone and Elms College head coach Mark Gehring devised a competition plan that includes eight programs across the New England area. The list of competing teams includes Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) programs Albertus Magnus, Elms, Colby-Sawyer College, University of Saint Joseph (CT), Saint Joseph's College of Maine, and Roger Williams University. Outside of the GNAC, Gordon College & Babson College have also accepted an invitation to take part in this competition.
"I am excited that we have this opportunity to compete and are supported by our Director of Athletics, Jim Abromaitis, and Albertus' President, Dr. Marc Camille," said Pallone. "Swimming and diving is a sport most-watched during the Olympics, so I am happy that the ideas we came up with, even though out of the box, were approved."
This innovative event will take place virtually, with each program picking a day during one of the allotted weeks of competition to set their scores. These virtual meets will take place over four weeks, with the opening week slated for March 7 through March 14. The championship meet of this event is scheduled for April 14-16. Each week will feature different events, with the race distances increasing throughout the competition.
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, fans will not be able to attend any of the Falcons' home swimming events. For fans looking for highlights of the competition, Albertus will be putting together a weekly highlight video of the action to go along with a story recapping all of the scores.
