JAMAICA, N.Y. - The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team picked up its first two wins of the season, defeating York College (N.Y.), 5-2 and 4-3 on Tuesday.
The first match between the two was a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) game.
In doubles, Tiffanie Ly (Branford, Conn.) and Hope Williams (Stonington, Conn.) beat Franeidy Mauricio and Jada Powell, 6-1 in No. 2. The Falcons won doubles No. 3 by default, picking up the point.
Shawna Glasgow (Bridgeport, Conn.) won her No. 1 match in singles, 6-2, 6-4 over Mauricio. Ayanna Perez (Ansonia, Conn.) defeated Jada Powell, 6-1, 6-4 in No. 4 singles. York did not have a player for the final two matches, giving Albertus two more points.
In the non-conference match, the Falcons took the doubles point once again, including another 6-1 win by Ly and Williams over Mauricio and Powell.
Perez defeated Powell, 8-4 in singles No. 4. Albertus got the final two points and took the win after York did not have a player for the singles No. 5 and No. 6 matches.
Albertus moves to 2-7 on the season and 1-4 in the CUNYAC. York moves to 0-6 and 0-3, respectively.
