DeCarli named Conference SID of the Year
Albertus Magnus College Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Information Director Kristen DeCarli was voted the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Sports Information Director of the Year. The announcement was made by GNAC Commissioner Joe Walsh in advance of the 2012 GNAC Professional Development Seminar on August 7 and 8 in Boston, Massachusetts. DeCarli will accept her award on the final day of the seminar.

2011-12 GNAC All-Academic Team Announced
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced the All-Academic Team for the 2011-12 school year. Twenty-two student-athletes from Albertus Magnus College were among the 618 members of the Academic Team from 14 institutions in the conference.

The Albertus Magnus baseball team will be the fifth seed in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament that is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 24. The Falcons will head to Quincy, Massachusetts to take on fourth-seeded Suffolk in postseason play.

A two-run home run in the sixth inning gave Anna Maria the go ahead as the AMCats eventually took the first game of the GNAC double-header 5-3 over the Albertus Magnus baseball team. John Sullivan recorded his first home run of the season with a two-run blast as he broke open a tied ballgame.

Lesley’s Jeff Landry threw a complete game two-hitter as the Lynx defeated the Albertus Magnus baseball team 8-4 in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon. With the loss, the Falcons move to 11-18 on the year.

Brian Levchuck pitched six shutout innings of work before an error allowed Emerson to score its lone run of the game as the Albertus Magnus baseball team defeated Emerson 6-1 in GNAC action on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons improve to 10-17 on the year and even their record out to 6-6 in GNAC play.

Kyle Calechman (North Haven, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with three RBI as the Albertus Magnus baseball team cruised to an 11-1 victory over Suffolk at Quigley Stadium in West Haven. With the Albertus win, the Falcons and Rams split their Saturday afternoon double-header.

Oscar Torres (Jersey City, N.J.) connected on a two-out RBI single to center to score the Falcons’ eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Albertus Magnus baseball team defeated Mount Saint Mary College 6-5 on Thursday night. Freshman Fanol Prevalla (Berlin, Conn.), who went 4-for-5 for the Falcons in tonight’s ballgame, scored the eventual game winner as it was his third run of the contest.

The Albertus Magnus baseball team fell to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) 20-2 in GNAC action on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats recorded 20 runs on 18 hits and four Albertus errors, while improving to 17-9 on the year and a perfect 6-0 in the league standings. Albertus moves to 5-14 overall and 2-4 in GNAC play.

Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) led the Falcons with a 3-for-4 performance, while both Robert Gambardella (North Haven, Conn.) and Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) contributed with two hits and an RBI apiece.

Celebrate Frankie’s Birthday/Student-Athlete Appreciation Day
Albertus Magnus College will celebrate the birthday of its mascot, Frankie the Falcon, in honor of Student-Athlete Appreciation Day on April 4. Student-Athlete Appreciation Day is honored annually on April 6 but with the day falling on Good Friday, Frankie’s birthday will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 4 at noon in the DeDominicis Dining Hall.

In game two of the non-conference baseball double-header, Albertus Magnus dropped a 9-6 decision to Coast Guard at Quigley Stadium in West Haven. A three-run sixth inning followed by a two-run seventh secured the 9-6 victory over the Falcons.

A sacrifice fly by freshman Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) lifted the Albertus Magnus baseball team to a come-from-behind 9-8 victory over Coast Guard on Monday night. In the first game of two, the Falcons battled back from an 8-4 deficit to pull within one run with three runs scored in the bottom of the fifth inning. A two-run sixth inning gave the Falcons the 9-8 advantage.

The Falcons rallied in the sixth by scoring two runs but the Seahawks were able to withstand the comeback and took the eventual two-run victory.

The Albertus Magnus baseball team will open the 2012 season on Sunday, March 11 as the Falcons head to Virginia to take on Washington & Lee University in non-conference action. The Falcons’ season-opener kicks off their spring break trip, which consists of six games in six days before returning to Connecticut.
