PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball made it a sweep in a 3-0 win over Purchase State on Thursday evening in a non-conference road match.

Majo Pelaez (Armenia, Colombia) led the Falcons with nine kills, nine digs and a three aces. Yarieshka Sierra (Hartford, Conn.) and Paula Matheus (Tunja-Boyaca, Colombia) each had five kills, and Shalese Gordon (Bridgeport, Conn.) had a team-high 12 assists to go with four kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• In a competitive first set, the two teams were unable to separate themselves as no one held a lead bigger than three points at any point. The teams tied each other 13 times during the set. Albertus had 11 kills during the first set, including three from Sophie Cseszko (Magnolia, TX) and two each from Pelaez, Matheus and Nyanna Richards (Bridgeport, Conn.) With the Falcons ahead 19-18, Purchase scored four straight points, including two kills from Sadie Weiss to take a 22-19 lead. A kill from Sierra was matched by one from Natalie Leite of Purchase to keep the Panthers ahead by three. However, a service error and an attack error by Purchase made it a one point set, and a kills from Richards set up by Gordon tied it at 23-23. Gordon then delivered an ace on the next serve and assisted Cseszko's kill to give Albertus the 1-0 lead in the match.
• It was all Albertus in the second set, jumping out to a 12-3 lead behind five kills and an ace by Pelaez early on. After two points by the Panthers, Albertus rattled off four straight, including kills by Matheus, Sierra and Gordon. Purchase never got closer than nine points the rest of the way as Albertus cruised to the 25-11 set two win.
• After the two teams split the first 12 points of the third set, Albertus went on a 9-2 run to take a 15-8 lead behind two aces and a kill by Pelaez and two aces by Alyssa Valentine (Bristol, Conn.). The Panthers got back to within six points at 19-13, but Albertus scored six of the last nine points to complete the sweep, including kills from Camila Queiroz (West Haven, Conn.), Matheus and two from Gordon.
