Volleyball Falls To Fisher On Senior Night

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College volleyball team lost a 3-0 match to Fisher College on Tuesday evening in the home finale for the Falcons.

Albertus celebrated senior day prior to the match, honoring five its student-athletes, playing their final home game. Majo Pelaez (Armenia, Colombia), Shalese Gordon (Bridgeport, Conn.), Nyanna Richards (Bridgeport, Conn.) Da'Veona Parker (New Haven, Conn.) and Alexys Signor (Bristol, Conn.) were all honored.

Pelaez finished with 13 kills and 15 digs, both of which were team highs. Gordon had a team-high 15 assists to go with 10 digs. Signor added 14 digs, while Richards had seven kills and two aces. Parker finished with seven digs and an ace. Paula Matheus (Boyaca, Colombia) led the team with three blocks to go with two aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons took a slim 9-7 lead in the first set behind three kills from Richards to go with an ace. Fisher scored the next four to take an 11-9 lead. From that point forward, the teams would tie seven more times, the last coming at 20-20. Fisher led 23-20, but back-to-back errors closed the Albertus deficit to 23-22. However, Natalia Ramirez scored the final two points for Fisher, with a kill from Pelaez sandwiched in between to give Fisher the 1-0 lead in the match. Richards had four kills inthe set, while Pelaez had three.
  • The second set saw the Falcons lead by as much as seven points at 23-16 as Pelaez had five kills, and Sophie Cseszko (Grapevine, TX) and Richards each had two. After Albertus had set point at 24-18, Fisher scored the last eight points, including four kills by Jeiris Velez to steal the set and take a 2-0 match lead.
  • Fisher took a 13-6 lead in set three, which included three consecutive aces by Alondra Fairnacci early on. Albertus responded and cut the deficit to 15-12 thanks to three consecutive kills by Pelaez. However, Fisher scored the final 10 points to complete the sweep.
